Two similar documents have come up for auction recently.
The second document is scheduled for auction in Ittigen, Switzerland on June 28, 2025. It certifies that John Backer Church owns five shares of the North American Land Company, signed by Robert Morris on May 28, 1795. (Invaluable Announcement)
The first document is also a stock certificate in the North American Land Company, signed by Robert Morris on April 18, 1795. These ten shares are registered to none other than “Wm Temple Franklin.” It is also signed by James Marshall, the secretary to the company, and brother to John Marshall, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
This item was at auction in Germany on June 7, 2025, and is now listed as “passed,” which I presume to mean withdrawn from the auction for lack of satisfactory bids.
